Pets bring many wonderful things to our lives. They offer unconditional
love and countless purrs, tail wags, and cuddles, and have a way of
making us chuckle even on the worst days. Of course, being a pet parent
isn’t all snuggles and doggy kisses: your furbaby will create a bit of
extra work for you as far as housecleaning. In the process of being
adorable, Fido and Fluffy will also leave their fur on your clothes and
belongings.
Hiding Litter Boxes
The fact that our feline friends will use their own bathrooms to
discretely do their business is definitely one of the bonuses of being
owned by a cat. Fluffy’s personal powder room won’t do much for your
décor, however. There are some great ways to camouflage litter boxes.
You can cut a hole in an enclosed end table or plastic tote, hide it
behind a folding screen, or shop for a customized piece.
Choose The Right Fabrics
When shopping, look for fabrics that don’t trap fur, such as leather
and microfiber. Flooring is a better bet than carpet, as it’s much
easier to clean. We also recommend getting drapes for window treatments,
rather than blinds, and putting washable slipcovers on your furniture.
Dinner Hack
Put a placemat or a dinner tray beneath your pet’s food and water
bowls. It will trap dropped bits of food, and will be much easier to
clean than the floor itself.
Pet Pantry
If you have room, consider making a pet pantry. A simple standalone
cabinet or repurposed armoire will do nicely. You can keep Fido and
Fluffy’s toys, clothing, first aid kits, carriers, leashes and collars,
and food there, instead of having your furball’s belongs scattered here
and there.
Pick the Right Plants
Plants can add a wonderful, natural touch to any home. They also
filter air, which can help fight pet odors and make your home smell
better. Just be sure to choose the right plants. You can check the ASPCA
website for a list of toxic and non-toxic plants.
